The National Centre for Isotope Geochemistry at UCD (NCIG) was set up in January 2009 and is located within the UCD School of Earth Sciences. The Centre facilitates interdisciplinary research in radiogenic and heavy stable isotope geochemistry by academics from UCD, Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and University College Cork (UCC), as well as international collaborators.
Laser ablation is a technique for sampling material at high spatial resolution for introduction into a variety of analytical instruments, such as quadrupole and magnetic sector ICPMS instruments. Consequently, major and trace element concentrations and isotopic abundances can be determined and interpreted in a spatial (textural) context.
Having both the bulk sampled and laser ablation isotope values, including vertical laser scans on the hominin and bear specimens, provides an opportunity to evaluate the data from laser ablation GC/IRMS to that from the more conventional bulk sampling technique.
Laserablation inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (LAICPMS) is well suited for highly sensitive elemental and isotopic analysis of solid samples. In this technique, a laser beam ablates the sample and generates fine particles that are then transported to the ICPMS system for rapid elemental analysis. Abstract. Isotope plays an important role in both tracing and dating in earth science, especially 87 Rb86 Sr system. With the development of earth science, wholerock analysis can't sufficiently meet the requirements for scientific research and the microanalysis becomes more and more significant.
molybdenite are sampled for dating by conventional isotopedilution N–TIMS or ICP–MS techniques. The results reemphasize the critical need for homogenization of quantities of molybdenite sufficiently large to capture the bulk Os/Re of the sample to be dated by these methods.
methods such as laser induced fluorescence , or absorption [5,6].In this paper we describe the application of Laser AblationAbsorption Ratio Spectrometry (LAARS) to measuring isotope ratios for a targeted elementinindividual micronsized particlesthat are themselvesminor components in a larger heterogeneous mix of 'background' particles.

Introduction to Laser Ablation ICPMS for the Analysis of Forensic Samples Application Note Often liquid samples require little preparation, but without a solid sampling accessory, solid samples need to be dissolved. This process is time consuming and often requires the use of acid dissolution reagents and additional sample preparation apparatus.

Specialized sample introduction systems can be coupled to an ICPMS, including spark or laserablation systems, hydride generators, and chromatography systems (GC, IC, HPLC, and UPLC systems). In these cases, sample preparation protocols will vary depending on the .
